End of Service Charge Privilege as of July 1, 2024

Necessity of individual contracts for cable TV

End of "Service Charge Privilege" as of July 1, 2024

As of July 1, 2024, the previous service charge privilege will no longer apply to tenants living in a property for which the landlord has entered into a collective agreement for cable TV usage. To continue receiving cable TV, tenants must close their own contract with a cable provider by this date.

Previously, the collective agreement for the property was billed to tenants by the landlord through the service-charge-accounting. However, this will change as of July 1, 2024.

Many house managements are informing tenants of this change through house notices posted in the affected properties. It is important for tenants to act promptly and secure their own contract with a cable provider to continue receiving television via cable.

Beside a contract with a cable provider, there are other alternatives such as receiving television programs via the internet or a room antenna. These options should also be considered by tenants.

After July 1, 2024, cable TV will no longer appear as a position on the house-cost- or service-charge-cost-accountings. Therefore, tenants should ensure they make their own arrangements in time to ensure uninterrupted television reception.
